About
Rachael's
Fabrics
The Owner
Barbara
Harris
bought 5 year old Rachael's Fabrics, in
Lubbock, Texas in 1985. After years of an Art Career at home, she could finally
work at what she truly loved most: sewing and people. In 1992, she moved
the Rachael's crew into an abandoned Swenson's Ice Cream building and we have
had a ball making it home. 2005 is our 25th Anniversary. The
shop is literally a fabric wonderland, known over much of the United States as
"the" place for wedding and other unusual fabrics as well as fine linens, rayons, and
party and prom fabrics; and lots of quilting fabrics! All of these are kept at the front of the shop in
the old main restaurant still lighted by Tiffany stained glass fixtures. The
marble ice cream soda bar has been transformed into a cutting table and checkout
complete with barstools and a brass foot rail. The ice cream store room is now
home to Brother and Pfaff embroidery/sewing machines and sergers while the huge
old refrigerator room serves as our class room. Barbara
and
Bobbie's
offices are central
the to entire place, with both doors wide open as customers come in and out of
the once used kitchen.
Robert's
repair department is at the side entrance and he even gives curb service if you
can't get your machine out of the car! Quilting fabrics and patterns are
cornered on one side of the classroom and patterns and buttons are on the other.
The powder room is detailed with a chintz sofa, an antique vanity, and George
Strait photos!
Our staff
of consultants are ready and willing to help. And each and
every one really sews! We've all come from varied backgrounds to create an
unbeatable combination of experience and know-how. Check our
calendar
for a list of constantly changing classes, taught mostly by our own
experts.
